The first day of the Global Petroleum Show goes off without a hitch.

Looking across the outdoor exhibits at the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, all you can see towering over the trees are cranes and well servicing equipment.

Service rigs from Complete Oilfield Manufacturing and APEX Well Servicing Inc. and cranes from Camex Equipment Sales & Rentals Inc. loom over attendees as the Global Petroleum Show offers all the pieces of heavy equipment you would need on an oilfield.

Lance Glamoc of Calgary came to the show to check out all the industry has to offer. “I’m here shopping for a new service rig,” he said.

Glamoc didn’t want to disclose which company he was associated with, but said he had already visited about half of the outdoor exhibits at the show. “This is the place to be if you’re in the gas or oil business. Anything you need is right here. One-stop shopping, I say.”

The Calgary Stampede grounds, where the show is being held, was packed full of environmental services contractors, oilfield employees and just curious Calgary residents checking out the scene.

The show is attracting 2,000 companies, 65,000 delegates and will inject $69 million into Calgary’s economy, according to show officials. They added that they expect to draw $8.9 billion in business transactions to the province.

The show was first launched in 1968 and held every other year, but after this show it will become an annual event in Calgary.

“There’s a lot of technology to look at, stuff we wouldn’t normally be able to see unless we came to this show,” Glamoc says.

Fruitland Manufacturing showcased several of its pumps in an outdoor booth and officials said they were pleased with the showing on the first day.

“We’ve had quite a few stop by already,” said Chris White, vice president and general manager for Fruitland. “This is one of our bigger shows that we attend.”

The Global Petroleum Show continues through Thursday.
