The submersible vortex pump from Zoeller Company can be used to lift slurry from a low area. Motors are available from 1/2 to 15 hp, with discharges ranging from 2 inches NPT to 6 inches flanged. Its watertight motor with electrical cable up to 75 feet long and integral legs allows it to be installed free-standing, submerged in the liquid. Capacities range from 100 to 800 gpm. Its vortex impellers will handle liquids with solids concentration as high as 5 percent. The vanes do not extend into the pump housing, allowing it to handle thicker fluids with entrained solids and stringy materials. It is constructed with dual mechanical shaft seals to protect the motor, and silicon or tungsten carbide faces are recommended. Class 1 Division 1 Group C and D rated motors are available. 800/928-7867; www.zoeller.com.
