Owner Ron McCumbers added this white, black and red 2011 Peterbilt 338 to his fleet of trucks serving energy companies on the Marcellus Shale Formation. The truck was purchased from Hunter’s Peterbilt in Smithfield, Pa., and built out by Curry Vac with a 110-barrel steel vacuum tank and Masport 400 liquid-cooled pump and is used mainly to haul frac water between gas rigs. It is powered by a 500-hp ISX Cummins engine tied to an 18-speed manual transmission for ample hauling power and precise braking control on hilly, winding roads. The truck has a helper axle to carry a full load that can reach 70,000 pounds. It also features bedliner protection along the hose trays, dual topside and single rear manways for easy cleaning, and usually carries three sets of hoses from VAR Co.: 25-foot 3-inch, 35-foot 3-inch and 40-foot 4-inch to handle a variety of uses. With dual rear fill valves, McCumbers can load his personal vehicle from a pit in as little as nine minutes. The truck has dual toolboxes on the back bumper, as well as a spill tray and a hitch in both the front and rear if help is needed to move the truck. Sight glasses are also found in the dished rear end of the tank. Graphics were provided by Chip Turner at Unique Sign and Design. The interior is loaded up with features including wood grain dash accents, Concert Class stereo system, climate control system and air-ride seats.
